Day 1: Arrival to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and first hike
Individual arrival to Garmisch-Partenkirchen,
earliest arrival on 11th June 2024, last Arrival on 24th September 2024,
Drop off luggage by 11 am at a collection point at the Olympic Ski Stadium at the valley station of the Eckbauer cable car.
Then the hike starts directly with the ascent by cable car to the Eckbauer (1,250 m), hike to Elmau Castle and on to the Lautersee, shortly before Mittenwald the trail climbs again to the Ederkanzel mountain inn before descending to the entrance to the Leutascher Geisterklamm gorge. If you have the time and the inclination, you can start the circular walk through the impressive gorge (additional 3½ km, free admission). The public bus then takes you back to Leutasch to the hotel.
ca. 15 km, 5½ hours, 550 m ascent, 700 m descent.
Day 2: Seefeld Olympic Region and Innsbruck, capital of the Alps
Today’s hike leads through Leutascher Valley and across the Katzenkopf to Seefeld Olympic Region. After passing through the town, the hike continues by train down to Innsbruck. Once you arrive, there is enough time to explore the busy city, especially the Old Town with its world-famous Goldenen Dachl, or Golden Roof.
Then by public bus to the hotel, in the mountains to the west of Innsbruck.
ca. 10 km, 3½ hours, 400 m ascent, 300 m descent.
Day 3: Hike to the Stubai Valley
The tension is rising: Today, the crossing from Mutters to the Stubaital awaits the prospective Alpine crosser. From the hotel, the hiking trail leads past the Kalkkögeln, a mountain formation similar to the Dolomites,
similar to the Dolomites, over the Halsl and down into the Stubaital to Telfes/Fulpmes to your accommodation.
ca. 11 km, 5½ hours, 550 m ascent, 1050 m descent.
Day 4: Hike from the Stubai Valley to the Gschnitz Valley
The first ascent is conquered in the morning with the help of the Serles cable car; the summit station is at an altitude of 1,560 m. From there the hike leads to Maria Waldrast monastery, with a constant of the majestic Serles, 2,718 m high. From the pilgrimage site back down to the Blaserhütte at 2,176 m, a great place to get some sustenance after all the climbing, and a well-deserved break before descending down into the Gschnitz Valley and to the hotel in Triens.
ca. 14½ km, 5 hours, 350 m ascent, 700 m descent.
Day 5: Hike from the Gschnitz Valley to the idyllic Obernberg Valley
In the morning, we immediately head up past the Trunaalm to the Eggerjoch.
The following descent first leads to the Lichtsee, a crystal-clear, cold mountain lake.
As you continue your descent into the Obernberg valley, the nearby Brenner mountains greet you and you can also enjoy the wonderful views of the striking Tribulaunen and the Olperer. The hike then continues into the Obernberg valley and to Obernberg/Wipptal to the hotel.
ca. 17 km, 8 hours, 1050 m ascent, 900 m descent.
Day 6: On smugglers’ trails to South Tyrol
From the accommodation, the trail continues into the valley through the Obernbergtal past the Seebachweg, past the St. Nikolaus Church to the wonderfully situated Obernberger See. Continue upwards on old smugglers' paths to 2,165m to the Sandjöchl, where you cross the border from Austria to Italy.
From Sandjöchl the trail now descends and enters the Pflerschtal valley, accommodation is in Gossensass.
ca. 15½ km, 7 hours, 800 m ascent, 1100 m descent.
Day 7: Hike to Sterzing
In the morning, the cable car takes you from Ladurns high above the Pflerschtal valley to the Dolomieu Trail, named after the French explorer and geologist Déodat Gratet de Dolomieu. The striking mountain shape of the Pflerscher Tribulaun frames the hiker's view again and again. The hike continues to the mountain station of the Rosskopf, from where you can once again and finally enjoy the magnificent view before taking the relaxing cable car down to Sterzing.
In Sterzing itself, the adventure of crossing the Alps can be rounded off with a glass of vino or a cup of cappuccino.
ca. 8 km, 3 Std, 450 Hm bergauf, 300 Hm bergab.
Day 8: Return to Garmisch-Partenkirchen
After breakfast, collection from the hotel and return to Garmisch-Partenkirchen,
departure ca. 9 a.m., arrival in Garmisch ca. 12 p.m.,
however the arrival could be much later, depending on traffic!
