Habichtswaldsteig

Impressions of the hiking tour 'Habichtswaldsteig'
A gentle and sometimes demanding hiking experience on the swinging of the hawk in the Grimm homeland north Hessen.

Symbol is the hawk - a raptor of the forests of the Habichtswald. His flight over the landscape stands for one feeling of freedom and adventure. Inexplicable phenomena, natural and cultural phenomena were and are sources of inspiration. Here are the roots of many fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm.

The Habichtswaldsteig is a mostly gentle and safe trail that appeals to the pleasure hiker. The approximately 85-kilometer climb begins in Zierenberg, leads to the Edersee and crosses the Habichtswald nature park. It connects the largest hessian juniper heaths on Dörnberg with last jungles on the steep slopes of the Edersees, the world heritage site of the Kasseler Bergpark with the world natural heritage of the beech forests in the national park Kellerwald-Edersee.

The Habichtswaldsteig promises unforgettable hiking days through a unique cultural landscape. We moves in a setting in which the mythological roots our ancestors lie and in which many fairy tales play. The landscape is enchanted by mighty hat trees, bizarre rocks, flower-colored meadows, rustic beech forests and bubbling streams, through dilapidated castles and picturesque half-timbered buildings. Fairytale rest areas and information boards natural history and cultural peculiarities keep that fairytale theme awake.
