Rheinsteig around Lorch, Loreley and Rüdesheim
Day 1: Arrival at the hotel in Lorch
After settling into your room there is enough time to explore the small winegrowing town.
Free parking at the hotel.
Rail travellers will be collected from Lorch Railway Station.
Day 2: Hike Lorch – Assmannshausen
From the hotel up through vineyard terraces to the heights of the Rhine, and with beautiful views into the Rhine Valley, the hike continues through forests and vineyards to Assmannshausen, a famous winegrowing town on the Rhine.
Hike distance ca. 15 km, 350 m ascent.
Return by rail to Lorch.
Day 3: Hike Lorch – Kaub
In Lorch, ascent via the Wisper and through terraced vineyards to the heights of the Rhine. Hike along the Rheinsteig to Kaub. Hike distance ca. 15 km, 380 m ascent.
Return by rail to Lorch.
Day 4: Hike Assmannshausen – St. Hildegard – Rüdesheim
By rail in the morning from the hotel to Assmannshausen, from there ascent to the heights of the Rhine or a comfortable ride on the chair lift. The hike leads to various viewing points, without any notable ascents, then to the Niederwalddenkmal, high above Rüdesheim. Continue through vineyards to the monastery of St. Hildegard.
After visiting the monastery and shop, descent to Rüdesheim and a stroll through the world-famous winegrowing town on the Rhine. Hike distance ca. 12 km, 110 m ascent.
Return to Lorch by Rhine ship in the afternoon.
Day 5: Hike Kaub – Loreley – St. Goarshausen
Short trip by ferry to Kaub, ascent through the vineyard terraces to Dörscheid, hike along the heights of the Rhine on the Rheinsteig, several ascents and descents to various different viewing points. Finally to the world-famous Loreley rocks, and the Loreley Visitors’ Centre.
After your visit, descent to St. Goarshausen on the Rhine, by Rhine ship or rail back to Lorch.
Hike distance ca. 22 km, 540 m ascent.
Day 6: Hike along the RheinBurgenWeg
From Lorch by ferry to the other side of the Rhine. From the ferry stop there to the RheinBurgenWeg (Rhine Castles Trail), and hike via Oberdiebach to Bacharach, an interesting winegrowing town in the Upper Rhine Valley. Hike distance ca. 14 km, 330 m ascent.
Stroll through the town and visit Stahleck Castle. After a refreshment stop, return by rail to Niederheimbach and by Rhine ferry back to Lorch.
Day 7: Individual hike
Individual hike, or hike based on the suggestion of the hotel.
Day 8: Return home
Return home
Rail travellers will be taken to Lorch Railway Station.
