Day 1: Flight to Funchal on Madeira

Individual arrival by own arrangement to Santa Cruz Airport (Funchal). Upon request, collection from the airport and transfer to the hotel (ca. 25 min). Also upon request, we can book a cheap flight for you. You will be welcomed in the evening by our hiking guide, who will present the programme for the week, followed by dinner together.

Day 2: Hike around Funchal

Collection in the morning by a minibus and transfer to the stadium, from there we hike along the city levada to the end of the hotel zone. Descent to the Atlantic coast, through a tunnel and via the hotel promenades, past Reid’s Hotel, on to the harbour, and then back to the hotel.

Lunch in a pretty fish restaurant directly at the Atlantic (ca. 5 hours), dinner together in the evening.

Day 3: Hike on the Sao Lourenco peninsula

By minibus to Baia d’Abra on the Sao Lourenco peninsula, which reaches far into the sea to the east of Madeira. Hike along the wild romantic coast through the nature conservation area to Pico do Furado (ca. 3 hours).

Return by bus; dinner together in the evening in Funchal.

Day 4: Pico Ruivo 1,862 m, Madeira’s highest mountain

By minibus in the morning to Achada do Teixeira, at an altitude of 1,600 m, from there on a paved path up to the highest peak in Madeira, then on a spectacular and challenging, but also safe mountain path, which was laid out by the authorities 40 years ago, to the peak of Pico do Arieiro (1,818 m, ca. 6 hours). After a refreshment stop, pick-up and return to the hotel; dinner together in the evening in Funchal.

The hike on the mountain path can also be omitted, then only 2 hours and by bus to the collection point.

Day 5: Island tour

Today we get to know Madeira. Bus tour to the highlights of western Madeira. Our native guide speaks German and will provide information about the land and its people.

A typical island lunch at midday in a rustic establishment; dinner together in the evening in Funchal.

Day 6: Levada da Serra to Monte

First by scheduled bus to Camacha, comfortable hike along the Levada da Serra to Monte (ca. 4½ hours). A visit to the church , from there an individual trip by bus or wicker toboggan or cable cat back down to Funchal; dinner together in the evening.

Day 7: Levada do Carnical

By bus to the outskirts of Marocos. Hike along the only irrigation canal in the dry northeast of Madeira. An attractive tour through a settled, cultivated landscape with deep valleys of original nature. The side valleys are especially pleasing in spring, during the acacia blossom. No ascents (ca. 4 hours).

By bus back to the hotel in Funchal. Farewell dinner in the evening in a restaurant high above Funchal, with a glorious view of the bay.

Day 8: Return home

After breakfast, transfer to Funchal Airport and flight home to Germany by own arrangement.
