West Highland Way

The most famous hiking trail in Great Britain!

Starting at Milngavie, a suburb of Glasgow, the West Highland Way leads to Fort William, 152 km through the Scottish lowlands and highlands.

Along its route, the most hiked trail in Great Britain presents a good opportunity to get to know the Scottish landscape and way of life.

Apart from some sections around Loch Lomond and from Kingshouse via the Devil’s Staircase, the West Highland Way is not very difficult, but does require a good level of fitness and is certainly not suitable for beginners! It is signposted with a long-distance hike symbol.

Tour itinerary

Arrival:

Flight by own arrangement to Glasgow International Airport. Travel from the airport to the first hotel independently.
The flight is not included in the price. Upon request we can book a flight for you.

Arrival at Edinburgh Airport also possible. Collection or train ride from there to Glasgow (in both cases subject to a charge).

Daily Arrival:

Individual hikes on the West Highland Way without a hiking guide, therefore a knowledge of English is necessary!
Guided hikes in German available for groups.

Daily hikes:

Trip duration 10 days, 9 overnight stays, 8 stages covering a total of 152 km +5 km access paths. The first stage has only a few ascents, but some of the other stages re more difficult, in particular on the third day at Loch Lomond, with constant ups and downs along ca. 5 km of narrow, stony and wet paths directly at the shore. A good level of fitness is required, or else this section can be bridged by ferry.

Daily transfer of luggage to the next accommodation, which is in hotels or in typical Bed and Breakfasts, either on the route or with a transfer. Hearty Scottish breakfast, all rooms with shower/bath and WC, tea and coffee-making facilities. Lunch pack available daily locally (not included in the price).

Additional day possible in Fort William or Glasgow and at the end of each stage.

Day 1: Arrival in Glasgow-Milngavie
Day 2: Milngavie – Drymen (20 km)
Day 3: Drymen – Rowardennan (23 km)
Day 4. Rowardennan – Inverarnan (22 km)
Day 5: Inverarnan – Tyndrum (20 km)
Day 6: Tyndrum – Inveroran (16 km)
Day 7: Inveroran – Kingshouse (16 km)
Day 8: Kingshouse – Kinlochleven (13 km)
Day 9: Kinlochleven – Fort William (22 km)
Day 10: Return by bus or rail to Glasgow Queen Street

Departure:

The hike on the West Highland Way ends in Fort William, final overnight stay there, return the next day by rail to Glasgow (Queen Street Station), from there by own arrangement by taxi to the airport or additional day in Glasgow, alternatively also in Edinburgh.

Fares for the return journey are not included in the price.
