The Pyrenees

The border mountain range between France and Spain

The high mountain range stretches for more than 400 kilometres between France and Spain, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. The landscape thrills with its wild and original character. Different climate and vegetation zones are located in close proximity to each other, from green pastures to desert-like steppe, and from snow-covered peaks to blossoming almond trees.

The Pyrenees offer the perfect mix of nature and culture! The wide, quietly located Hecho Valley is the ideal place from which to enjoy the real Pyrenees, far away from mass tourism. In addition, the nearby, breath-taking rock formation Mallos de Riglos and the monastery San Juan de la Peña are a true experience.

All hikes can be managed without any great difficulty but sure-footedness and fitness are required!

A large role in the success of this hiking trip is played by our hiking guide Dr. Alvaro de Andres. He is a Basque, comes from Bilbao, studied in Stuttgart, speaks excellent German, and lives in the area. Someone who truly knows the land and its people!

The family-run accommodation Casa Chuanet is located in the lively and and less touristy mountain village of Hecho. The hospitable hosts Belén and Antonio offer a hearty, typical breakfast every day. In the afternoon, you can explore the small village with its natural stone houses, romantic alleyways, a nice café and small stores. The clear river also offers the opportunity for a refreshing swim.

The day ends with a 3-course dinner together, while the group enjoys the traditional dishes of northern Spanish cuisine.
