5 Days Rennsteig Leisure Hiking

Explore the Rennsteig between Inselsberg and Oberhof

Day 1: Arrival
Welcome to your comfortable hotel in Floh-Seligenthal. After settling in, take time to explore the peaceful surroundings, visit the historic half-timbered town of Schmalkalden, or discover the former Finstertal mine.

Day 2: Hike – Inselsberg to Neue Ausspanne
Main route: Approx. 18 km | 460 m elevation gain
Alternative route: From Neue Ausspanne via Ebertswiese mountain lake back to the hotel. Approx. 13 km | 280 m elevation gain

Day 3: Hike – From Oberhof to Floh-Seligenthal
Transfer to Oberhof in the morning. After exploring the town and its famous winter sports venues, continue to the alpine-like Rennsteig Garden. Hike from there via the Rennsteig Arena and across the Sperrhügel back to your hotel.
Main route: Approx. 20 km | 350 m elevation gain
Alternative route: Explore the highlights of Oberhof on a shorter trail via the garden and arena. Approx. 12 km | 120 m elevation gain

Day 4: Hike – From Tambach-Dietharz
Transfer to Tambach-Dietharz. From there, hike back through peaceful forests to the hotel.
Main route: Approx. 18 km | 420 m elevation gain
Alternative route: Start from Rotteroder Höhe, return via the Rennsteig and Sperrhügel. Approx. 12 km | 310 m elevation gain

Day 5: Departure
Return journey from Floh-Seligenthal.
For rail travellers: Complimentary transfer with luggage to the nearest station in Schmalkalden.
