Hiking on Germany’s largest island!

Hardly any other island is as rich in such varied, attractive excursion destinations. Hike along the chalk cliffs, to the Königsstuhl and Cape Arkona, through the Southwest Rügen Biosphere Reserve, to Sellin Pier, to Granitz Hunting Lodge, to Putbus and a trip on the “Rushing Roland”, a historical narrow-gauge steam railway, and a boat trip to the car-free island of Hiddensee.

The price of the tour "Rügen" includes the following:

  • 7 overnight stays with breakfast and dinner (2-course menu)
  • Accommodation in a good hotel in a central location in Binz

Tour itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Arrival by own arrangement by rail or car to the Baltic Sea resort of Binz/Rügen (Intercity railway station). Hotel parking subject to a fee.

Day 2: Hike to Sellin and Granitz Hunting Lodge

Hike from Binz on the Hochuferweg coastal path to Sellin Pier. Continue through the forest area around Granitz to the Schwarzer See and the hunting lodge on the Tempelberg. After viewing and climbing the tower (optional), return to Binz (ca. 18 km, 5 hours).

Day 3: Hike to the Königsstuhl

By bus to the harbour town of Sassnitz. Hike through the town, then on the chalk cliffs coastal path to the Viktoriasicht and the Königsstuhl. Many lovely views along the way, at the Königsstuhl there is the option of descending to the shore. Continue via the Herthasee to the bus that will take you back to Sassnitz. By boat across the Prorer Wiek back to Binz (ca. 18 km, 7 hours).

Day 4: Trip to the island of Hiddensee, island hike

By bus to Schaprode and by ferry to the car-free island of Hiddensee. Hike from Vitte to the Dornbusch and on the coastal path to Kloster, optional visit to the Gerhard Hauptmann Museum. Return by ferry and bus in the late afternoon to Binz (ca. 12 km, 10 hours).

Day 5: Hike to Putbus and trip with “Rushing Roland”

Hike through the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve. First via Granitz to the megalithic tombs at Lancken-Granitz and on to Neu-Reddevitz. Now along the beach to Lauterbach, to the Goor Bathing House, then to the “white town” of Putbus, with its classicist buildings at the Circus. Return to Binz on the “Rushing Roland” narrow-gauge railway (ca. 22 km, 7 hours).

Day 6: Hike to Cape Arkona

First by bus to Glowe. Hike on glorious paths via the Schaabe, along the Jasmunder and Breeger Bodden, and on to Juliusruh. Short bus ride to Putgarten and hike to Cape Arkona with its lighthouses and the remains of the Slavic Jaromarsburg. Then on to the small romantic fishing village of Vitt. Return by bus to the hotel in Binz (ca. 14 km, 6 hours)

Day 7: Hike across the Mönchgut Peninsula

By bus to Gager. Hike through the Mönchgut Biosphere Reserve with impressive views of the southeast part of the island of Rügen as far as Usedom and the Polish Baltic coast. Continue via Groß-Zicker and across the broad sandy beach to Lobbe. Return to Binz by bus (ca. 14 km, 5 hours).

Day 8: Return home

Return home from Binz by rail or car. The hotel will take hikers and their luggage to the railway station.
