The Geo Nature Park Frau-Holle-Land is located at the foot of the Hoher Meißner, not far from the former border with the GDR.

This quite countryside between Fulda and Werra is considered by hikers to be an insider’s tip, since here it is possible to experience the highest level of hiking enjoyment. Hiking trails that cover the most beautiful destinations of the region on circular tours have been tested by the German Hiking Institute and have been awarded the quality hiking seal as a Premium Trail.

Our rustic partner inn Der Teichhof, attractively located at the village pond in Grandenborn, is a traditional family-run business that indulges its guests with culinary delights. The rooms are located in the guest houses Alte Mosterei and Haus Lepinat.

As a self-catering business, most meals are homemade and served in the restaurant, e.g. natural sourdough bread, yeast cakes and naturally cloudy apple juice, as well as homemade sausages, ham and not least the northern Hessian Ahle Wurscht, a speciality of the Teichhof. This is not only available to buy in the farm shop, but is also well-known beyond the boundaries of North Hesse.

All necessary transfers to and from the hiking trails will be provided by the Teichhof and are included in the price. Most of the hikes can be adjusted to individual capability.

Tour itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Arrival each Tuesday from April to October at the Teichhof in Grandenborn, free parking at the guest house. Rail travellers will be collected from Wehretal or Herleshausen railway station (cost contribution 20 EUR/per journey for up to 7 persons). After occupying your room there will be enough time for a hike on the Grandenbörner circular route, ca. 3½ km.

Day 2 Wednesday: Premium Trail Boyneburg

Hike through a landscape of forests, fields and meadows, towards the protected ruins of Boyneburg, located on a shell limestone plateau (513 m high), which provides magnificent views. Premium Trail Boyneburg, ca. 17 km, ca. 620 m ascent.

Day 3 Thursday: Premium Trail Point India

Transfer in the morning by the hotel to the start of the hike in Lüderbach. The name of this hiking trail, which mostly leads through fields and meadows, is taken from the observation tower Point India, which was built in 1984 as part of a large US military base. At the end of the hike, pick-up and transfer back to the Teichhof. Premium Trail Point India, ca. 14 km, ca. 410 m ascent.

Day 4 Friday: Premium Trail Ulfener Karst

Transfer in the morning by the hotel to the start of the hike in Breitau. Hike through a karst landscape that is unique for northern and eastern Hesse, with springs, a dry valley, a high plateau with many views, and a special geological feature, the legendary Wichtellöcher (described in detail on local information panels). At the end of the hike, pick-up and transfer back to the Teichhof. Premium Trail Ulfener Karst, ca. 15 km including feeder paths, ca. 480 m ascent.

Day 5 Saturday: Premium Trail Gänsekerleweg

Transfer in the morning by the hotel to the start of the hike in Datterode. From there, ascend to the Berliner Tower on the Hüppelsberg (410 m high) with a spectacular panoramic view, onwards uphill and downhill to the Stahrenberg and Spitzenberg, where the Wichtelbrunnen invites you to take a break, before the steep climb to the Spitzenberg begins. At the end of the hike, pick-up and transfer back to the Teichhof. Premium Trail Gänsekerleweg, ca.10 km, ca.720 m ascent.

Day 6 Sunday: Premium Trail Graburg or return home in the case of Alternative A

Transfer in the morning by the hotel to the start of the hike in Weißenborn. The hiking trail goes around Weißenborn, the smallest parish in Hesse, in a lively mixture of rugged rocks, limestone fields, forests and heights, meadows and fields. At the end of the hike, pick-up and transfer back to the Teichhof. Premium Trail Graburg, ca. 14 km, ca. 510 m ascent.

Day 7 Monday: Return home (only Alternative B)

Return home by own arrangement. The Teichhof can take rail travellers to Herleshausen or Wehretal station, cost contribution 20 EUR/per journey for up to 7 persons.
